It has serious balance issue in terms of grind and pacing not the characters. I'm finally enjoying this deep and atmospheric roguelike, and may well play it on a harder difficulty once I've finished my first campaign. The easier difficulty allowed me to appreciate the mechanics more, because the stress system and other harmful encounters became problems to solve, instead of an unstoppable wave of despair - also, it gave me breathing space to actually learn the various mechanics. I did so, and found the game to be a good level of challenge my victories were close, and I wasn't losing units at too punishing a rate. I noticed that on starting a new game, it actually encourages you to pick the easy mode for your first campaign. I'm a fan of strategy games and I liked the roguelike structure and its deep meta, but the difficulty, coupled with the grim aesthetic and psychological distress that your troops go through, put me off.Ī week ago I decided to pick the game back up.
